H.W. Hunt was the recipient a few days ago of some nice Banana apples sent
to him by express by F.M. Smith of Cashmere, Wash. Mr. Hunt brought us in a
sample apple, a beauty, measuring 13 inches in circumference, and asked us to
give an opinion on its flavor through the columns of the Gleaner, as a New York
man made the statement several years ago that no western apple had a flavor that
commenced to compare with an eastern or New York State apple. During the
sampling process, we did the apple full justice, and while it hurts us to go
back on good old New York State, we are compelled to admit that the Banana
apple, at least, if this does not happen to be an exception, has a flavor fully
equal to any we have ever tasted, here or elsewhere.
Sm. Aikins has
started a barbershop in the Braun building, formerly occupied by Photographer
Krause.
Anyone owing bills to Chris Wollenberg can pay the same at the
Greenwood State Bank, or anyone having an account against Chris Wollenberg, can
collect same at the bank.
A brakeman on the Greenwood branch wears a red
cap to distinguish his anatomy from that of a deer. He says his best girl knows
him as a dear fellow, and to keep fool hunters from getting stuck on him he
wears a red cap. (Register)
