Mathis, Sp 4 Howard (Military Notes - 1970)
Sp 4 Howard Mathis, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Edison Mathis of Rt. 3 Neillsville, has completed his tour of duty
with the United States Army and returned Saturday evening to his home. Mathis, a
1967 Neillsville High School graduate, enlisted for military service in November
of that year.
After completing basic training at Fort Campbell, Ky., he
received advanced individual training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. He left
for Vietnam in May of 1968 and was stationed at Long Binh with the 54th
Ordinance Ammo.
In June of 1969 he came home on a 30-day leave and in
July returned to Vietnam, where he was stationed with the Americal division;
first at Chu Lai and then at Duc Pho. He received his discharge June 5 at Fort
Lewis, Wash.
