East Lynn (9 Mar 1916)

Will and Chas. Guk, who have spent the winter in a logging camp at Tripoli, returned home last week, having received their honorable discharge. It is reported that the last night they lodged in that vast wilderness, a sudden attack of homesickness took possession of Bill, who has a somewhat timid and sensitive nature, which started his knowledge box running on high gear, trying to form a plan whereby he might reach his native land in the shortest possible manner. The fact will perhaps never be known whether it was the effect of a nightmare or from rumors about the aeroplanes and their rapid way of transportation that induced him in the dead of night with the mercury at 22 below zero to abandon a warm bed and take a place of observation astride the roof of a barn, but that is where the inmates of that logging camp found him at the break of morn, looking with wistful eyes toward the warring nations of Europe, hoping against hope that a friendly airship would soon make its appearance and extend a helping hand, but as minutes passed into hours and no aircraft became visible, he was compelled to abandon his lofty perch to seek food and shelter and accept a slower, but safer way of reaching his home, and at the stroke of eight o’clock last Tuesday evening he arrived in East Lynn somewhat restless, but otherwise the same old Bill.

H.E. Wordell, the cheesemaker, has been on the sick list for some time. Gad Omhold has been attending to his duties and has kept the wheels in motion.

A young people’s party was held at the home of Fred Grade last Saturday evening in honor of a relative from Greenwood.

There will be a basket social and program in the school house Thursday evening that will by far exceed any doings that have occurred in this district before or perhaps some time to come. Miss Emma Furlong, the teacher, and her pupils have spent [remainder of article missing for transcription]
