Northup, Esther (14 NOV 1848 – 14 MAR 1916)

Mrs. Esther Northup died at her home in the town of York on Tuesday evening, March 14th. She was born in Dodge County, Wis., Nov. 14, 1848, and was married to Thomas G. Northup in 1865. They came to Clark County the same year and together started the home farm. In 1881 the husband passed on, leaving her with a family of four little ones to care for, one child having preceded the father in death. Mrs. Northup did her work well and bravely, raising her children to manhood and womanhood in spite of dark and dreary days. She leaves to mourn her loss, her son, Charley of Weston, Oscar of York, and Thomas, the daughter having died about 29 years ago. Also six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Dillon and Mrs. Mary McKenna, both of Abbotsford, besides many nephews and nieces to miss her kind and happy ways. The relatives from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. Geo. Barker and Thomas Dillon both of Abbotsford, and Mr. and Mrs. D. McCarthy of Fond du Lac. Mrs. Northup was a good and true mother and friend, doing everything possible to help others until a few years ago, when she herself became an invalid and has been a great sufferer ever since, but of late had seemed to be gaining, and a few days before her death she grew rapidly worse and Tuesday evening she fell asleep and was at rest. We shall all miss Grandma in the days to come, but we know that our loss is her gain and we will hope to meet again when we too are called over the river.
