Miessner, Elmer L. (11 JAN 1930 - 9 NOV 2013)
Elmer L. Miessner, 83, of Mancelona passed away November 9, 2013, at home
surrounded by his family. He was born January 11, 1930, in Athens, the son of
Adolph and Emma Miessner.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three
children, Linda Gilmore of Gaylord, Daniel (Deborah) Miessner of Bluffton, SC;
and Sandy Miessner of Grand Rapids; brother, Edward (Gloria) Miessner of Fish
Creek; sister, Helen Berens of Wausau; sister-in-law, Selma Miessner of Edgar;
five grandchildren, Matthew of Albquerque, NM., Niqi of Ridgland, SC., Amanda
(Chris) of Perkasie, PA., Kristen (Corey) of Grayling, and Jason of Grand Blanc;
three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Tyler and Landon. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, Agatha
Guedenschwager, Wilfred Miessner, Mildred Oblak, Melvin Miessner and Clarence
Miessner.
Elmer worked as a Cheese Maker in Wisconsin and for Gordon
Foods in Mancelona. He was the owner of Miessner Motors and the Cheese and Gift
Shop. He was also a mechanic for Derrer Oil Company. Elmer proudly served as the
Fire Chief and was a volunteer for the Ambulance in Mancelona. He was an Elder
and Member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church for many years. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing. Throughout the years he anonymously gave his time and talents to those
in need. Elmer and Pat enjoyed spending the winters in Port Aransas, Texas for
the past 18 years where they attended the Presbyterian Church and were involved
with the youth group and were known as Grandpa and Grandma to many teens.
Funeral services for Elmer will be Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at 3:00
p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mancelona with Deacon Jack Mosher III
officiating. The burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation
will be Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Mancelona
Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes and on Wednesday at the Church one hour prior
to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St.
Matthew Lutheran Church, PO Box 469, Mancelona, MI 49659. Please sign his
