Sawczuk, John Frank (4 July 1923 - 14
November 2013)
John f. Sawczuk age 90, of Thorp, passed away on Thursday,
November 14, 2013, at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield. Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013, at St.
Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial followed in the St. Hedwig
Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 17, 2013, from 4:00
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. Parish and Knights
of Columbus rosary. Visitation was also held on Monday, November 18, 2013, from
9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.
John Frank Sawczuk was
born on July 4, 1923, in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, to Frank and Anna
(Siemienuk) Sawczuk. He was raised on the family farm and received his education
at area schools. After completing his education, John took over the family farm
and stayed on after his father’s death, farming until retiring in 1987. He then
moved into the city of Thorp, where he resided until his death.
John had
many interests, but especially loved watching the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee
Brewers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. He attended many local high school sporting
events and enjoyed bowling. As a young man, he also played baseball in local
leagues including Thorp, Lublin, and Greenwood. He was a member of St.
Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and the Thorp Knights of Columbus Queen of
Peace Council #4634.
John is survived by one sister-in-law, Lucille
Sawczuk of St. Paul, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Stanley, Joseph,
and Edward; and five sisters: Helen Koperski, Mary Wiebe, Regina Burzynski, Rose
Strojny and Frances Burke.
