Dr. Carroll N. Schield, 96, formerly of Neillsville, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Carroll was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Neillsville as the only child of Joseph and Alice Schield. After graduating from Neillsville High School in 1936, he attended college at Drake University in Des Moines, IA, on a basketball scholarship. After retirement, Carroll and Betty moved to Florida, returning each summer to to the family’s cottage at Hatfield.

A private and quiet man, Carroll was a dedicated professional, a well-regarded community member and a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Always active, he was an avid tennis player and played the game well into his late 80’s. He was a lifelong Packer fan, a baseball enthusiast and enjoyed time with his family. As a testament to his professional achievements, Carroll held life memberships in the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association and Central Wisconsin Dental Society. He belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville and St. James’ Catholic Church in New Port Richey, FL.
