Neillsville Area (18 December 2013)

The piano students of Kathy Meshnick presented a program for their Christmas Recital held Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Living Hope Church. Many sang while they played their songs, others only played and some sang solos. Taking part were Becky Anason, Joe Anason, Teresa Cortez, Christopher Cortez, the Cortez family, Karsen Czarnecki, Armin Del La Cruz, Amy Elmhorst, Ashley Elmhorst, Hannah Elmhorst, Morgan Gurney, Emily Gerhardt, Nikita Gasiorowski, Mark Jorgensen, Marie Jorgensen, Becky John, Nolan John, Allison King, Dayne Loberg, Nicky Langreck, Aubrey Matousek and Beth Erickson, Molly Millard, Charla Painter, Luke Reinhardt, Callie Schmidt, Christ Schutte and Ellie Walter. Students unable to attend were Brooke Magnus and Judy Morrow. Bringing the program to a close was the song, “The Gift of Love,” played by Kathy Meshnick with solo sung by Ashley Elmhorst. Socializing and refreshments followed the recital.

Nineteen members and two guests attended the potluck dinner and meeting of the Granton/Chili senior citizens Thursday, Dec. 12. Pastor Douglas and Sharon Bjerke entertained, playing all the old favorite Christmas songs with members singing along. Cards were sent to shut-ins. The ice cream was furnished by Bob Ratsch. Fern Rowe invited everyone to the Community Christmas Dinner to be held at noon Dec. 25, at the York Center Methodist Church north of Granton on CTH K. A free will offering will be accepted. Come and bring a friend! The January meeting will be held Jan. 9 at the Granton Community Hall with the potluck served around noon time.

Winter, the coldest season of the year in our Northern Hemisphere, begins Saturday, Dec. 21, with the winter solstice; the sun is at its most southerly position. It also marks the shortest hours of daylight for us -- nine hours and 44 minutes.
