Hales, Roy O. (6 February 1888 - 8 July 1971)

Roy O. Hales, 83, of Rt. 2 Loyal, died at Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville last Thursday, after a brief illness. Funeral services, with Masonic rites, were held at the Roycraft Funeral Home in Loyal Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Gene Carlson of the Loyal United Methodist Church was in charge. Burial was made in the Loyal Cemetery.

Mr. Hales was born February 6, 1888, in Terrill, Ia., and received his education at the high school there. He was married to the former Lesta E. Miller of Ocheydan, Ia., on August 10, 1910. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary last August. She died December 11, 1970.

In Ocheydan he owned and operated a dray line for five years before moving to the Town of Loyal, where he developed a farm from cutover land. He had made his home there continuously since that time. In April he completed his 31st year as treasurer of the Town of Loyal and declined to run for office again. He had also served as a member of the board of Mack School for eight years and had been Clark County chairman of the ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization and conservation Service) for 10 years.

He joined the Masons in Iowa and was a member for 61 years. Mr. Hales was past worshipful master of Loyal Lodge, No. 335, and past worthy patron of the Iris Chapter, No. 264, Order of the Eastern Star of Loyal. He was affiliated with the Loyal United Methodist Church of Loyal.

Survivors include a son, Myrle, of Manawa; three grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
