Zenita M. Kowalczyk, age
96, of Gilman, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Oakwood Villa,
Altoona.
Zenita was born August 22, 1917 in Greeley, Iowa, the daughter
of the late Frank & Hazel (McCartney) Taylor. At a young age she moved with her
family to the Gilman area where she grew up and attended area schools.
On August 22, 1939 she was united in marriage to Frank Kowalczyk at St.’s Peter
& Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. For two years they lived in Gilman, then moved
to Chicago for employment, later moving back to Gilman to take over the family
farm until 1971 when they moved into the village of Gilman.
Zenita was a
devout Catholic with a great love for her God and her family. She was known for
always remembering birthday’s, and anniversaries. Polka music and dancing also
gave her great joy.
She is survived by her daughters, Rosalie Fischer of
Eau Claire; Barbara Dempsey of Maplewood, MN; Kathy (John) Reyes of Frisco, TX;
11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, sister,
Jeanette Nelson of Chetek, and son-in-law, Steve Reynolds of Eau Claire.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank in 1997, daughter,
Carol Reynolds in 2004, and siblings, Warren and Burdette Taylor, Ellen
Ogorzalek, Cora Gozy & Bernard in infancy.
Services will be held on
Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St.’s Peter & Paul Catholic Church,
Gilman, with Fr. Madanu Sleeva Raju officiating. Burial will follow in the
parish cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at
the church. Plombon Funeral Service is assisting the family.
