Dorothy S. May, 92,
Medford, died on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Memorial Health Center in Medford, where
she had been a patient the past week. A memorial service will be held on
Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with
Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Interment of her
cremated remains will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford at
a later date.
Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9 to
10:50 a.m.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the
family with arrangements.
The former Dorothy Aldrich was born on January
18, 1921 in Stratford to the late Frank and Marie (Martin) Aldrich. She was a
graduate of Stratford High School.
On May 1, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic
Church, she married Robert "Doc" J. May, who preceded her in death on June 6,
1999. She was a homemaker and artist, and gave many art demonstrations within
the community.
She was a charter member of the Black River Art Society
and Taylor County Arts Council, and was recognized by the Wisconsin Rural
Artists Association and awarded the John Stewart Curry Medal for her outstanding
job of promoting the arts in her community. She enjoyed music, especially jazz,
and play many musical instruments.
Survivors include a daughter, Maureen
May of Sarasota, FL; a son, Mark "Farley" (Rosemarie) May of Edgewater, FL;
three sisters, Ruth Perkins of Van Nuys, Calif., Elizabeth Specht of Marshfield
and Joann (Paul) Kleinheinz of Naples, Fla.; three grandchildren, Dr. Nathan
(Dr. Lianne Pino-Etten) Etten of Miami, FL, Erin (Rick Gutierrez) Etten of
Atlanta, GA, Robert May of Delafield; and two great-grandchildren.
In
addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother,
John Aldrich.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be made to
Holy Rosary Catholic School of Medford.
