Schmidt, Janet "Jan" (18 APR 1944 - 19 DEC 2013)
Janet
“Jan” Knoll Schmidt, 69, Loyal, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in her
home. A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal,
on Friday, Dec. 27, with Rev. Dan Zimmerman presiding. The family will greet
family and friends for visitation starting at 9 a.m., with a service to follow
at 11 a.m. A private interment will follow with her immediate family at St.
John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Riplinger, next to her husband, Norman H.
Schmidt.
Janet Knoll was born on April 18, 1944, to Vera and Clarence
Knoll. Jan grew up on her family farm in Riplinger. She married Norman H.
Schmidt on June 30, 1962, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riplinger. She moved
with Norm to Fort Campbell, Ky., where he was stationed until 1964 and then they
moved back to Loyal and began and raised their family. Life in Loyal was good to
Jan and Norm, they were blessed to own The Sportswear Express Store, and a
greenhouse where Jan’s love of flowers bloomed throughout central Wisconsin. Jan
worked as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church, the Loyal Drug Store,
American Home Patient, Tieman Realty, and Curve’s. Jan’s personality added grace
and a spice to life to all she encountered. Any person Jan ever met left as a
new friend. Jan loved playing cards with family and friends and she and Norm
spent several years in Port Aransas, Texas, during the winter months. Jan’s love
of flowers was expressed by the beauty of her yard.
She will be dearly
missed by her three children and their spouses, Scott (Julie) Schmidt,
Neillsville, Lona (Jay) Stump, Willard, and Chad (Cheryl) Schmidt, Mosinee; her
six grandchildren whom she was so very proud of, Luke Schmidt, St. Paul, Minn.,
Austen (special friend Lindsey) Stump, Greenwood, Chelsea Schmidt, Hot
Springs, S.D., Leah (special friend Chris) Stump, Madison, and Samantha and Bo
Schmidt, Mosinee. Our lives have been truly blessed because we have had the best
of the best as sons and daughters and grandchildren. She is also survived by two
brothers, LaVern (Evie) Knoll, Mountain, and Gene (Cheryl) Knoll, Medford; and a
sister, Dorene (Don) Newman, Colby. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and
her husband, Norm, in 2012.
A special thank you to Pastor Dan Zimmerman,
family and friends for prayers and concern during this difficult time.
