Cerven, Janice “Kay” (21 April 1947 - 21 December 2013)

Janice “Kay” Cerven, 66, of Thorp, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral home in Owen. Pastor Bonnie Cain will officiate. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home in Owen. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon.

Kay was born April 21, 1947, to Victor and Bernice (Ackerman) Gosse in Curtiss, WI. She was a 1965 graduate of Dor-Abby High School. After high school, she then worked for Wausau Insurance until her marriage to Ronald Cerven which took place on October 25, 1969, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Together they owned and operated Club 73 in Thorp from 1970 to 1977. She then worked at Master Package in Owen and, until the time of her death, she worked at Mapleton Wood Products in Thorp, which is now known as Birchwood Lumber.

Kay enjoyed yard work, work, gardening, cooking and canning, listening to polka music and spending time with her family.

She is lovingly survived by her mother, Bernice Gosse of Abbotsford; her children: Todd (Lisa) Cerven of Owen, Melissa (Darrell) Cook of Wausau, Jason Cerven of Thorp and Laura Cerven of Eau Claire; grandsons: Eric and Craig Cerven. She is further survived by her brother; Ron (Elaine) Gosse of Abbotsford.

Kay is preceded in death by her father, Victor Gosse; and her husband, Ronald Cerven.
