Hilligas, Doris Irene (Marriage - 19 July 1971)

Miss Doris Irene Hilligas, Milwaukee, and Larry Francis Frese, Thorp, were married Saturday July 19, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp. The Rev. R. W. Olson performed the double-ring ceremony before 200 guests in a church decorated with bouquets of gladioli, mums and daisies. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Carrie Hilligas of Chelsea, Ia. The groom is the son of Emmett Frese of Thorp. A reception was held at the Silver Dollar Pine Grove, where music was provided by the Mike Briski orchestra.

For her marriage, the bride chose a white street-length dress of organza over satin, styled with a lace mandarin collar, empire waist and long, full sleeves. Her shoulder-length veil was held by a headpiece of lace petals. She carried a bouquet of daisies and mums as she was given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Fred Prusha, of Chelsea, Ia.

Margie Erickson, Milwaukee, a friend of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jo Ann Dollen, Chicago, Ill., and Darlene Noah, Thorp, both sisters of the groom, and Marianne Brandl, Auburndale, a friend of the bride. They wore dresses of lavender chiffon over satin styled with lace mandarin collars and empire waistlines. Floral headpieces held circular veils. Each carried a bouquet of daisies and mums accented with lavender streamers.

Theresa Prusha, Chelsea, Ia., niece of the bride, was the flower girl.

Robert Frese, Milwaukee, brother of the groom, served as bestman. Groomsmen were William Dollen, Chicago, Ill., brother-in-law of the groom; Thomas Kuester, friend of the groom; and Gerald Frese, Thorp, cousin of the groom. Two of the groom’s brothers, Jerry and Terry Frese, served as ushers.

The bride, a graduate of Chelsea (Ia.) High School and of the IBM School of Des Moines, Ia., has been employed in Milwaukee. Her husband a Thorp High School graduate who spent three years with the Marine Corps as a member of the Green Berets, is self-employed in Thorp. The newlyweds will make their home on Rt. 3 Thorp.

Out of town guests at the wedding came from Chelsea, Ia., Milwaukee, Chicago, Ill., West Salem, Greenwood, Stanley and Rockford, Ill.
