Olson, Dehne, Alice (Mother of Jan. 1 Trio Dies -2013)
A Greenwood
(Clark Co., Wis.) woman who achieved national and even international fame
decades ago for a unique motherhood occurrence, passed away last week.
Alice Olson-Dehne, who was featured in the "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" new
columns decades ago for giving birth to three sons, each on New Year's Day, in
the 1940's, will be laid to rest later this week. Olson-Dehne and her first
husband, Daniel Olson, became the parents of Gerald on Jan. 1, 1943, Duane on
Jan. 1, 1945, and Richard on Jan. 1, 1947. Gerald said the rare occurrence was
featured in the Ripley's regular newspaper column, although not the famous
"Believe It Or Not" book. Other newspapers, such as the Minneapolis
Star-Tribune, carried annual photos of the "New Year's Tri." Gerald now live in
the Twin Cities, Duane resides near Greenwood, and Richard lives in Holmen. The
brothers have two younger sisters.
Mrs. Olson-Dehne passed away Dec 17,
2013 at the age of 90. Family members will be wearing shirts at services in
honor of her "Believe It Or Not" moment decades ago.
