Agricultural Achievement Award on Saturday, July 12, at a breakfast celebration
of neighbors and friends. He operates 280 acres in Clark County and also takes
an active part in community affairs. The award , which consists of a $100 U.S.
Savings Bond, a gold lapel pin, and a handsome scroll, will be presented by

Chief cash income on the Smith
farm is from a herd of 35 Holstein cows, half of them purebred; 8 Durco brood
sows, whose litters are sold as feeder pigs; and a laying flock of 350 White
Leghorns. The farm is operated in partnership with the Smith’s son, Donald.
There are three other Smith children, Harry, who has been in the Marines
since 1948; Jane, who is now Mrs. Jack Bertz and lives on an 80 acre farm
nearby; and Lois, whose husband is in Korea.
In addition to his farming,
Mr. Smith is active in a number of agricultural and civic organizations.
Whenever he finds time from all of these activities, He enjoys his favorite
hobby – fishing. Mrs. Smith helps with the farm by taking care of the garden and
working with the poultry flock.
