Cukla, Anna Mary

Anna Mary Cukla, 98, Thorp, died on
Tuesday, Dec. 24 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. Funeral services
were held on Monday, Dec. 30 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin, with
Rev. Madanu Sleeva Raju officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Her
grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Thorp Funeral Home assisted the
family with arrangements.
The former Anna Pancyrz was born on July 30,
1915 in Ironwood, Mich., to the late Frank and Sophia (Iskra) Pancyrz. When she
was four, her family moved to the rural Thorp area where she attended area
schools.
On September 3, 1932 at St. Mary's Czestochowa Catholic Church
in rural Stanley, she married Charles A. Cukla, who preceded her in death. They
farmed in the Town of Taft for over 50 years until their retirement. She lived
in her home until the age of 94 then moved to the CoHo Assisted Living Center in
Thorp.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and its PCCW.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, her hats, dressing up, reading and
cutting out clippings to give to people.
She is survived by nine children,
Gertrude (Roman) Kostick of Ladysmith, Evelyn (Peter) Debold of Jump River,
Carole Kowalczyk of Loyal, Pat Struck and Harriet (special friend Tom) Denzin,
both of Milwaukee, Mary Barker and Delores (Dale) Piekarz, both of Phoenix, AZ,
Barbara (Leonard) Heiting of Phillips, and James (Karen) Cukla of Rockport, TX;
30 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four-great-great-grandchildren;
special family friend, Donna Cukla; nieces and nephews; and other family and
friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in
death by three grandchildren, Ralph Kostick, Paul Shea and Corey Clark; a
son-in-law, Joseph Kowalczyk; five brothers; and four sisters.
In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that donations be given in her name for a memorial to
be designated at a later date.
