McIntyre, James (29 DEC 1855 – 7
Jun 1916)
James McIntyre was instantly killed on Wednesday of last week
near Enterprise, Ore., by being struck by a saw log while at work with his crew
in the woods. He was a resident of this city and the remains were brought here
for interment by his widow. James McIntyre was born at Newington, Ontario, on
Dec. 29, 1855. He was united in marriage to Agnes Weaver on April 24, 1884, and
to this union one daughter, Edith (now Mrs. Peacock) was born. His wife died
within a few years and he was married to Eva Longway at La Crosse on Sept. 22,
1882. To this union one son and one daughter were born, Kenneth of Wallowa and
Mrs. Lee Bell of Hood River, Ore. Mr. McIntyre was a resident of Neillsville and
vicinity for many years, coming here 39 years ago. He engaged in the lumbering
business at that time and followed this profession throughout his life. Nine
years ago he removed with his family to Wallowa, Ore., and entered the employ of
the Nibly Minnewagha Lumber Co. in the capacity of superintendent. He continued
with this company until two months ago, when he went to the East Oregon Lbr. Co.
in the same capacity.
Deceased was a man of enterprise and ability and
was possessed of a geniality which made him the friend of all with whom he came
in contact. He was an earnest worker and the many positions of trust which were
imposed upon him were discharged with true fidelity. He is survived by his wife
and three children and one sister, Mrs. Mary McMillan of this city. The funeral
was held Tuesday morning, being conducted by the Masonic brethren. Those who
were here for the funeral were his wife, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Peacock of Fennimore,
Mrs. Longway and her two brothers of La Crosse, Mrs. Hendron of Greenwood,
Donald McMillan of Chicago and Mrs. F.B. Wing of Abbotsford.
