Bye, Esther Leonore (06 OCT 1895 – ? SEP 1949)
Mrs. Oscar Bye, (Esther
Leonore Kleinschmidt) daughter of Ludwig C. and Bertha Kleinschmidt was born on
a farm in Honey Creek Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, on October 6, 1895.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in infancy and at the age of three,
after the death of her mother, she, with her family lived with her grandparents
a year after which they made their home in Denzer, Wis. In 1904 the family moved
to Greenwood, Wis., where she was confirmed and attended high school graduating
with the class of 1914.
The following year she taught the Cottonwood school
near Bradley, S.D.
She was married to Oscar Bye on September 23, 1910 at
Greenwood, Wis. Five children were born to this union: Lorraine of Los Angeles;
Warren of Oklahoma City; Donald of Vermillion and Leslie and Dorothy at home.
She and family made their home on the Ole H. Bye farm for seven years and then
moved to Bradley where she resided until the time of her death.
It was at her
home that the St. John’s congregation was organized. She was a charter member of
the congregation and Ladies’ Aid and gave active service in Sunday school as
teacher and superintendent in both Our Savior’s and Bradley congregations.
