Meyer, Louise (22 MAY 1859 – 26 JUL 1934)

Mrs. Louise Meyer, a resident of this community (Fulda, Murray Co., MN) for over 30 years, died on Thursday morning following a long illness with heart trouble.  Although she has been critically ill several times, she continued to live alone in her own home until the last two months when her condition became so serious at one time that she was taken for a few weeks to the home of her son, Henry Meyer.  As soon as she recovered, she again preferred her own home and her daughter, Mrs. Anna Hinrichs, of Wahpeton, N.D., remained with her for several weeks, through her last illness.  Although she suffered a stroke on Thursday, July 19, she improved for several days until Sunday when she apparently had another stroke and from that time she grew gradually weaker until she passed away on Thursday morning, July 26th, at 4:15 o’clock.  Louise Wolhaupt was born May 22, 1859, in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.  She was confirmed in the Evangelical Church at Town Mosel, Sheboygan County, April 3, 1874.  On April 8, 1877, she was united in marriage to Dietrich August Meyer.  Their first home was at Hull, Ia., where they lived a few years, moving in 1888 to George, Iowa, and in 1903, they came to the farm north of Fulda.  Her husband passed away January 2, 1911, and shortly after Mrs. Meyer and her daughter, Emma, moved to Fulda and the daughter died in 1921.  There are four children surviving her, Mrs. Anna Hinrichs, of Wahpeton, N.D., Henry Meyer, of Fulda, Mrs. Caroline Horn, of Greenwood, Wis., and August Meyer, of Sisseton, S.D.  There are also 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, who mourn the death of this beloved woman.  Although Mrs. Meyer had lived to be 75 years old, she had never given up her enjoyment of her home, her garden, and her flowers, and busied herself from day to day.  She was a loving mother, friendly to all her neighbors and kind to all with whom she came in contact.  Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church, Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, by Rev. Reed of Slayton, in the absence of Rev. Walton, the local pastor, and internment was made in Prairie Hill cemetery.  Among those who came to attend the funeral services were her daughter, Mrs. Caroline Horn, her son, August Meyer, Miss Margaret Smith of Greenwood, Wis.,  Her daughter, Mrs. Anna Hinrichs, of Wahpeton, N.D., has been here for sever weeks.

Card of Thanks – We wish to thank all the neighbors and friends for their kindness and help during the illness and death of our loving mother, Mrs. Louise Meyer, also the choir for the music, and Rev. Reed for his words of comfort.  Mrs. Anna Hinrichs and family, Henry Meyer and family, Mrs. Caroline Horn and family, and August Meyer and family.
