Merkel, Margaret (31 MAR 1881 – 13 JUL 1943)
Margaret Blum, daughter
of Peter Blum Sr. and Eva Rottcher Blum was born March 31, 1881 at
Schlesingerville, now known as Slinger, Washington County, Wisconsin. The family
moved to Marshfield in April 1898.
On May 6, 1902 she was united in
marriage to Joseph Merkel at Marshfield and for one year they resided in New
Prospect, 4 years at Boltonville, 14 years at West Bend and at Greenwood for 18
years going to Marshfield in 1937 where they have resided ever since and where
she passed away suddenly on July 13, 1943.
To this union was born one
daughter Lois (Mrs. Merrill Hare) of this city.
She leaves to mourn her
loss, her husband and daughter, four brothers, Peter Jr., John, Paul and Jake
and three sisters, Mrs. Sue Warner, Mrs. Jos. (Mary) Schnell all of Marshfield
and Mrs. Wm. (Agnes) Warden of Campbellsport and a half sister, Mrs. Wm. (Ann)
Holmes of Mishicot, Wisconsin, 2 grandchildren, Corine and Sue Ellen Hare. One
sister, Mrs. John (Helen) Reese preceded her in death as well as her parents.
A Solemn Requiem High Mass was read at St. John’s Catholic Church at
Marshfield, with Rev. Farther Arthur Heindl as Celebrant, Rev. Father Wm.
Daniels of Menomonie, as Deacon and Rev. Father Walter Dillenburg as Sub-Deacon.
The Altar Society of Marshfield and R.N.A. of Greenwood attended in a body. She
was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery at Marshfield.
