Lyon, Virginia M. (24 MAY 1928 - 19 NOV 1952)

Mrs. Melvin Lyon, the former Virginia May Erickson, was born on a farm near Loyal (Clark Co.), Wis. On May 24, 1928, the daughter of Thomas and Clara Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greenwood, of which she was a member.

On Dec. 14, 1944 she was married to Melvin Lyon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claire Lyon of Loyal, at Greenwood.

Virginia and her husband Melvin and daughter Sandra left here Oct. 18, 1952 for Arizona, because of her health. She has been ill for more than a year with a heart ailment brought on by an attack of Rheumatic Fever several years ago.

She passed away in Gobe, Arizona on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1952.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, who died in infancy.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Sonja, 7, and Sandra 3, and two sons, Glenn 2, and Rodney 7 months, her parents and one brother, Burnell, of Madison.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 24, 1952 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The Rev. M. Egge officiated. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Grant Rear, Mrs. Walter Bandurn, Mrs. Art Strey, Mrs. Norman Gilbertson, Mrs. Louis Edwards, and Mrs. Darlene Smith were in charge of floral arrangements.

The choir sang "Rock of Ages" and the congregation sang "Abide with Me" and "Just as I Am," with Mrs. Don Warner at the organ.

The pallbearers were: Earl Caliebe, Wilbur Kehrberg, Art Strey, Glenn Henninger, Bernard Clouse, and Louis Edwards.

Out of town relatives and friends at the services included Burnell Erickson and Mrs. George Rude, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gilbertson, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gilbertson, Miss Mary Gilbertson, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Jackson, Argyle; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gilbertson, Sauk City; Mrs. Guy Wahl and Mrs. Lloyd Hendrickson, Blanchardville; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Art Strey, Glen Henninger, Bernard Clouse, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Lyon and son, Mrs. Lillie Lyon, Miss Echo Lyon, Mrs. Hugo Stutte, Mrs. Werner Gempler and daughter Rose, Mr. and Mrs. O. Henninger, Mrs. James Roder, Mrs. L.G. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith and daughter Darlene, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. L.
