Dux, Mr. and Mrs. Herman (Golden - 1971)
Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Dux of Globe observed their golden wedding anniversary with an open house
at their home Saturday afternoon, September 11. They continued their observance
by attending Sunday morning worship services at Immanuel Lutheran Church at
Globe together with members of their family. On the actual wedding date,
September 14, the couple carried on a tradition by going out to dinner with
their family.
The Duxes were married at the Globe church on September
14, 1921, by the Rev. William Perisius. Mrs. Dux remembers the day as being an
especially pleasant one, with fair skies and warm temperatures. For her
marriage, the former Elfrieda Schoenherr wore a full-length gown styled with a
fitted waist band and softly-gathered skirt and trimmed with lace appliqués.
Made for her by the former Frieda Henchen, now Mrs. John Martin of Humbird, the
fragile garment still fits the bride, 50 years later.
Bridal attendants
were Mrs. Dux’s sister, Lily Schoenherr, now deceased, and the former Bertha
Lueck, now Mrs. Henry Stiemke of Rt. 2 Neillsville. The groom’s attendants were
Edward Kroll of Neillsville and Robert Dux of California. Mrs. Stiemke and Mr.
Kroll were present for the observance; Mr. Dux phoned congratulations from his
home in California.
Mrs. Dux is a native of the Globe area and her
husband was born in the Town of Pine Valley. They have lived in the Neillsville
area since their marriage, farming for many years on her mother’s home place the
former Fred Schlinkert farm, where their son, Louis, now lives. Later they
bought the Schoenherr homestead, where they lived from 1946 until they built
their present home and retired from farming in 1962. The Duxes are the parents
of two children, a daughter, Gladys, Mrs. Gordon Thoma, and a son, Louis, both
of Rt. 3, Neillsville. There are seven grandchildren, Debra Danny and David Dux,
and Gail, Gloria, Gregory, and Gary Thomas. All were present for the open house.
Other close relatives present for the occasion included Mrs. Dux’s brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Schoenherr, together with their son and
his family, all of Columbus, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Emmett McDoungh, and eight of their nine children, of Chicago, Ill., and Mr.
Dux’s brother, Frank Dux of Loyal.
Many guests from the Neillsville,
Loyal, Granton, and Poynette areas also greeted the couple.
Featured at
the open house was an anniversary cake made and decorated by the couple’s
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louis Dux.
Mr. Dux’s anniversary tie was made for
him by a granddaughter, Debbie Dux. The fabric was the same as that in the dress
which Miss Dux made for her grandmother. In keeping with the golden anniversary
theme, the dress and the tie were created of gold-embroidered lace appliqués on
sheer over an opaque ivory underlining. Mrs. Dux’s dress was a closely-fitted
A-line style fashioned with short sleeves and a mandarin collar. A pine of gold
stones ringed with tiny rhinestones complimented the dress. The jewelry was a
gift from Mr. Dux. Gold side-buckled pumps completed the gold-touched ensemble.
An active couple the Duxes are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church at
Globe, and Mrs. Dux is also a member of its Ladies Aid Society. Mr. Dux spends
part of his time working at David Hoppa’s saw mill, but he and his wife still
find time to enjoy hobbies of fishing and gardening together.
