Greenwood (23 September 1971)

Mrs. William Kavanaugh and her niece, Miss Patti Jo Thompson, returned here Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson and daughter, Nan, who met them in Chicago. Mrs. Kavanaugh and Patti Jo left August 26 and spent three weeks with Mrs. Kavanaugh’s daughter, Kay, touring Rome, Italy, Spain and Africa. Miss Kavanaugh will visit in Greece, Lebanon and India before returning to Vietnam, where she has been stationed for a year with the U.S.O.

The American Lutheran Church women will meet today (Thursday) in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at 8 p.m. Election of officers will be held. The nominating committee includes Mrs. Louis Behrens, Mrs. Clarence Verhulst and Mrs. Carl Turnquist. The Naomi Circle will present the program. Hostesses will be Mrs. Calvin Johnson, Mrs. Harry Johnson and Mrs. Leonard Johnson.

St. Ann’s society will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary’s Hall. Hostesses will be the St. Rose group.

Four members of the Fatima Knights of Columbus volunteers went to Tomah Sunday. They wheeled veterans to mass at the Veterans’ hospital. They were Harlan Brux, Joseph Tolaney, Sr., Sylvester Hinker and George Plautz, Sr.

Mrs. Katherine Lindner and Mrs. Carl Stabnow left Monday to spend several weeks in Washington. Mrs. Lindner will visit at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice (Carmen) Neste, in Seattle, and Mrs. Stabnow will spend some time with Mrs. Hazel Stoneburg at Portland and with other former Greenwood relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Elton Dillon of Pelican Rapids, Minn., were guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. Glen Drew. Mrs. Dillon is the former Susie Drew of Greenwood.

Thursday evening gusts at the Robert Stewart home were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Korn and son, Richard, of Loyal and a Monday visitor was Mrs. M. C. Thompson of Abbottsford.

Miss Judy Verhulst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst, left Sunday to resume her studies at Wartburg college in Waverly, Ia..

Ervin Leach was taken by ambulance Wednesday to the hospital in Marshfield.

Sgt. Ronald Carteron arrived Thursday from Tucson, Ariz., for a 30-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Carteron. From here he will go to Miami, Fla., for a month, prior to leaving for his third tour of duty in Vietnam.
