Afkend, Mr./Mrs. Martin (Gold - 7 APR 1903)
Mr. and Mrs. Martin Afkend celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary at
their home in Greenwood (Clark, Co., Wis.) on Sunday, April 12, 1953 by holding
an open house for their many relatives and friends.
The reception was
given by their two daughters, Mrs. May Little, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Ruby
Edwards, Loyal, and a friend, Mrs. Leo Olson.
The home was prettily
decorated in gold and white streamers and a three tier wedding cake centered the
table.
The honored guests received many lovely gifts, cards, flowers and
a sum of money.
Martin Afkend was born Aug. 12, 1876 near Cobb, Iowa Co.,
Wis. Mrs. Afkend, nee Helen Johnson, was born near Richland Center, Wis. On
April 7, 1884. They were united in marriage on April 7, 1903 at Richland Center.
To this union were born three children, Mrs. May Little, Eau Claire; Donald
of Waukegan, and Mrs. Louis (Ruby) Edwards, Loyal. They have eight grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Afkend came to Clark County
in 1918 and have resided in and around Greenwood ever since.
Those from
away who attended the celebration were Mrs. Harold Hanson and Alice of Mt.
Horeb; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pritch of Cobb; Mr. and Mrs. Barney Mich, Richland
Center; Mr. and Mrs. Orval Rose, Bobby and Betty of Mauston; Mr. and Mrs. Rollie
Shannon and Sharon of Cazenovia; Mrs. Tress Cupps, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Afkend, Abbotsford; Mrs. Lulu Edwards, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Will Haas, Withee;
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pollnow, Neillsville; Mrs. May Little and son Kenneth, Eau
Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Edwards and Shirley, Loyal, besides many neighbors
and friends.
