Briski, Mathew (6 JAN 1878 - 3 JUN 1953)

Funeral services for Mathew Briski, Sr., 75, who passed away at his home in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) from a heart attack on Wednesday, June 3, 1953, were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday, June 6, 1953 at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. Father Edward Hartung officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The pallbearers were six of his seven sons: Mathew Jr., Tony, Frank, Robert, Theodore and Albert.

Mr. Briski was born Jan. 6, 1878 in Yugoslavia and came to this country in 1901. He was united in marriage with Katherine Zagar on Feb. 2, 1902 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Atlantic Mine, Michigan. They moved to Chisholm, Minn., where they lived until 1918.

That year they moved to a farm near here, where they remained until November 1948, when they moved to Greenwood following his retirement.

His wife and the following children survive: Mathew Jr., Chicago; Mrs. Matt (Mary) Malnar, Willard; Mrs. Matt (Elizabeth) Stimac, Cicero, Ill.; Tony and Mrs. Joe (Julia) Vivoda, Berwyn, Ill.; Mrs. Stephen (Katherine) Gulczinski, Minneapolis; Mrs. Stanley (Rose) Malasuk and Mrs. Stanley (Dolores) Lendosky, Thorp; Albert, Minneapolis; Mrs. Florian (Angeline) Gulczinski, Frank Robert, Theodore and John, Greenwood.

Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and two sister, Mrs. Frances Kesely, Hibbing, Minn.; and Mrs. Josephine Gasparac, Yugoslavia. Elven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Tony Briski and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vivoda, Berwyn, Ill.; Mathew Briski, Jr., Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Stimac Jr. and family, cicero, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Matt Stimac, Sr., Nokomis, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Gulczinski and family, Mrs. Albert Briski, Minneapolis; Mr. Peter Stipich, Lemont, Ill.; Mrs. Frances Kesely and son Matt, Hibbing, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Marko Briski, Chisholm, Minn.; Mrs. Peter Zagar and son Peter, Mrs. Slava Katalinich, Nashua, Minn.; and relatives and friends from Thorp, Willard; Neillsville, Loyal and Greenwood.
