Scherer, George (Baseball Manager - 1953)

Manager George Scherer Jr. of the Greenwood baseball team may be considered an "old man" as far as baseball is concerned, but after watching him play a full nine inning game at Owen Sunday, we wonder how many fellows of his age could perform that same feat. George still has plenty of hustle, and although he is the manager, he had to play Sunday because of not enough players being present. George deserves a vote of thanks from the Greenwood team and fans for the fine joub he has been doing. The hours he spends with the team, at his own expense, is a job in itself, but when he still pitches in and plays when necessary, is a mighty fine gesture.
