Mrs. V.J. Hill, nee
Anna Schweitzer, was born May 24, 1883 at Antigo and received her education
there.
On Nov. 12, 1903, in Antigo, she was united in marriage to Herman
Kalkofen, a cheesemaker. They resided in Antigo for some time before coming to
Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where Mr. Kalkofen operated the Eaton Center Cheese
Factory on the corner of Highway 73 and the 26 Road. Mr. Kalkofen passed away
May 30, 1935.
Mrs. Kalkofen resided here until 1941, when she moved to
Neillsville. On Sept. 17, 1943 she was married to V.J. Hill. They have resided
in Chippewa Falls for some time.
Mrs. Hill passed away at St. Joseph's
Hospital, Chippewa Falls, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1953 at 9:00 a.m.
Funeral
services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at St. John's Evangelical
Lutheran church, Neillsville. The Rev. Alfred Schewe officiated. She was laid to
rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her second
husband, eight children, Mrs. Ernest (Christine) Christie, La Crosse; Orville
Kalkofen, Aiken, S.C.; Mrs. Eugene (Eva) Christie, Neillsville; Lester Kalkofen,
HNC, U.S. Navy, Portsmouth, N.H.; Mrs. Ervin (Lila) Thoma, Wis. Rapids; Mrs.
Alice Jenneman, Chippewa Falls; Herbert Hill, Seattle, Wash.; and Eugene Hill,
Bloomer; two sisters, Mrs. Antonett Boettcher and Mrs. Fred (Sophia) Kalkofen,
Antigo; two brothers, Fred Schweitzer, Antigo and Julius, Winneda, Two Rivers;
and 10 grandchildren. Her fist husband, three sons, two sisters and one brother
preceded her in death.
