LaBonte, Frank (2 JUN 1877 - 11 DEC 1953)

Frank LaBonte, son of Cliprien? and Elizabeth LaBonte, was born on June 2, 1877 in St. Claire, Canada and came to the United States and Wisconsin in 1903, settling near Stanley.

In 1920 he came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where he worked for his brother, Louis, who ran what is now the Klune Tavern. Later he purchased the tavern, which he ran until 1944, when he retired.

He had been in ill health since July and underwent an operation on Nov. 3rd at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire and spent two weeks at the Victory Hospital in Stanley, before going to the home of his brother, Louis, where he spent a week.

Mr. LaBonte passed away at the home of his brother in Stanley at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 1953. The body was brought to the Schiller Funeral parlors on Saturday, where it lay in state until Monday.

A Requiem Mass was read at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood, Rev. Father Edward Hartung officiated. Mr. LaBonte was laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery in Stanley.

The pallbearers were Charles Ludwig, Mike Kowieski, R.L. Barnes, John Snedic, George Seliskar and George Speich.

Mr. LaBonte, who was one of sixteen children, is survived by a sister, Mrs. Angeline Tanguey, St. Justin, Canada and a brother, Louis LaBonte of Stanley.

Relatives and friends from Stanley who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis LaBonte, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. LaBonte, Mrs. Mary Jordan, Mrs. Imbirt Qualheim and Wm. Podbin, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schindler of greenwood also attended.
