Hallowell, Alaire (20 July 1928 -
11 October 1971)
Funeral services for Mrs. James (Alaire) Hallowell, 43,
of Rt. 1 Loyal, who died October 11, in Neillsville were held Friday, October
15, at 11 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. The Rev. William Humlie
officiated and burial was made in the Lutheran Cemetery at Loyal. The Roycraft
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hallowell, the former
Alaire Steffen, was born July 20, 1928, in the Town of Beaver. She graduated
from Loyal High School and from Taylor County Normal School at Medford. Her
marriage to James Hallowell took place June 17, 1950, at Marshfield. After their
marriage the couple farmed in Clark County. Mrs. Hallowell, who was a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church, taught in various Clark County schools for ten years.
She also served as a 4-H leader for several years.
Survivors, in addition
to her husband, include her mother, Mrs. Lena Steffen; five sisters, Mrs. Henry
(Helen) Schuh of Curtiss, Mrs. Charles (Irene) Wittlinger of Rice Lake, Mrs.
Jack (Rose) Dumler of Ripplinger, Mrs. Walter (Caroline) Boettcher of Stratford,
and Mrs. Orlo (Iris) Furman of Loyal; and two brothers, Emil Steffen of
Milwaukee and Harry Steffen of Germantown, N.Y.
Pallbearers were: Lyle
Verhulst, Lester Bloom, Glen Bloom, Henry Kastevy, Reno Herdrick, and Ted
Piekola. “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were sung
by Mrs. Erwin Dux and Mrs. Verland Dux. Organist was Mrs. John Olson.
