Braun, Mr. and
Mrs. Theodore (Golden - 12 October 1971)
(Intended for the 10/21/1971
issue)
Approximately 170 people were present for the Golden wedding
anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Braun held Sunday afternoon in
the Legion Hall in Greenwood. Bouquets of fall flowers were used as decorations
and two yellow ’mum plants centered the tables, which held gold candles and foil
bells.
Attending were all their children and their families; an original
attendant, Mrs. Hubert Horn, a sister of Mrs. Braun; and relatives and friends
from Minneapolis, Minn., Marion, Ia, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La
Crosse, West Bend, Withee, Thorp, Marshfield, Owen and Fall Creek.
Two
sisters of Mr. Braun, Mrs. Clara Liebzeit and Mrs. Emil (Marianna) Noah, had a
table display which featured a 50-year history in pictures of the Braun family.
Special gifts were a fan-shaped money tree tied with gold ribbon from their
three children; a crystal vase from their four grandchildren, Susan, Scott and
Brooks Braun of Minneapolis and Dennis Humke of Marshfield; and a money tree
from their two great-grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Humke.
Mrs.
Braun wore a corsage of gold colored roses tied with a gold ribbon and her
husband had a yellow carnation boutonniere. Susan Braun was in charge of the
guest book and two nieces, Miss Catherine Braun of Eau Claire and Mrs. Arvin
Liebzeit of Greenwood, cut the anniversary cake.
This is the third
generation in the Braun family who were privileged to celebrate their Golden
wedding anniversary.
Mr. Braun, son of the late Frederick and Marie
(Wilck) Braun, was born December 2, 1896, in Greenwood. And his wife the former
Emma Myrin was born April 10, 1899, in Withee. She is the daughter of the late
Andrew and Anna (Stigen) Myrin. They were married October 12, 1921, in the West
Side Reformed parsonage by the Rev. Otto Vriesen. Their attendants were Mrs.
Hubert (Myrin) Horn and the late George Braun, a sister and brother of the bride
and groom.
The couple operated a cheese factory in Braun Settlement and
in 1947 took over the Braun homestead, nine miles northwest of Greenwood. They
farmed there until retirement in 1958, when they moved to the city of Greenwood.
They are the parents of three children, Mrs. Irvin (Shirley) Humke of
Greenwood, Allen Braun of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. John (June) Wittwer of
Marion, Ia. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr.
and Mrs. Braun are members of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where Mr. Braun
was a member of the consistory for a number of years. He also served on the
Greenwood city council and for a number of years on the Clark County Board. Mrs.
Braun is a member of the Salem Aid.
