Mattes, Margaret (29 SEP 1872 - 8? FEB 1965)

Mrs. Margaret Mattes, age 92, was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on Sept. 29, 1872.

At an early age Margaret Ann McLeod came to the Gilman, Wis. area, where in 1902 she married the late William Mattes. After their marriage they operated a farm near Gilman until Mrs. Mattes' death some 10 years ago.

For the past several years Mrs. Mattes has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Helen) Karow of rural Withee.

Besides Mrs. Karow, two sons, Richard of Milwaukee and Douglas of Loyal, survive, together with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

One son, Robert, passed away about four years ago in Milwaukee.

Mrs. Mattes had three brother, Malcolm McLeod of Menomonie; Alex of Gilman; and Dan of Arizona, all preceded her in death.

Final rites were held at two o'clock at Plombon Funeral Home in Gilman, with Rev. George Kind officiating. Pallbearers were old neighbors of the family, Lenarth Asseth, Leo Olson, Henry Hagenson, Ed Nelson, Leif Almberg, and Evan Almberg.

Friends attending the service from the Withee area were Natalie Scherf and brother Floyd, Mrs. Earl Jensen, Rex Copper, Mr. and Mrs. Will Park and Mr. and Mrs. Arno Vater.
