Dill, Leo #2 (17 DEC 1924 – 07 OCT 1944)

Mrs. Lydia Dill received word on Wednesday, November 1, 1944 that her son Pfc. Leo Dill had been killed in action in Holland, on October 7, 1944.

Leo was born in Greenwood on December 17, 1924 and lived here all his life until he entered the armed forces in March 1942.

He was stationed at Camp Buttner, N.C.; Camp Pickett, Va.; Fort George Meade, Md.: and Nashville, Tenn. before going overseas in May 1944. He landed in England and then went to Holland.

He is survived by his mother, five brothers, Cpl. Gottlieb Dill and Cpl. Henry Dill overseas; Norbert of the U.S. Navy and somewhere in the South Pacific; Gilbert in Hollandale, Minn.; and Harvey at home, four sisters, Mrs. Phillip (Alberta) Thomas of Redding, Calif.; Mrs. Adolph (Anita) Abel, Greenwood; Mrs. Louis (Beulah) Matkovich, Willard; and Mrs. Harold (Julia) Mitte of Globe, and his aged grandfather Gottlieb Kuester besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

A memorial service will be held at Zion Reformed Church on Sunday, November 12 at 11 a.m. with Rev. B.M. Fresenborg officiating.

Mrs. Dill received the following letter from the War Department on Monday (missing from newspaper clipping.)
