Quast, Caroline #2 (11 MAR 1867 - 06 MAR 1943)
Caroline Fischer, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Fischer, was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin, on
March 11, 1867 and was married to Joseph Quast on July 3, 1888 at St. John’s
Catholic Church at Jefferson.
The Quasts lived at Jefferson until 1907 when they came to Clark County and settled on a farm south of Greenwood where they lived until 1917 when they moved to this city and where she resided until January of this year when she left with her son Hugo and family to make her home in Granton.
To this union were born eight children; Mrs. Linus (Agnes) Prock of Globe; Mrs. Robert (Esther) Kinnear, Mrs. August (Edna) de Kennen, Mrs. John (Florence) Paulley, and John all of Milwaukee and Hugo of Granton, a son Joseph and daughter Mary preceded her in death.
She passed away at the home of her son Hugo at Granton at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 1943 after an illness of four years following a stroke. She suffered several strokes since then. All of her children were at her bedside when she passed away.
Mrs. Quast was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Henry D. Wallis Post No 238, a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and of St. Ann’s Society. The legion Auxiliary and St. Ann’s Society attended the funeral in a body.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on July 3, 1938 and Mr. Quast passed away March 22, 1942.
The children have lost a devoted mother, the church a faithful member and the city a wonderful citizen and friend,. She was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
She is survived by the above named children, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.
A Solemn Requiem High Mass was read at 1 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, with Rev. J. Novak as celebrant, Rev. J. Biegler of Neillsville as Deacon, Rev. Raphael Stragisher of Willard as Sub-Deacon and Rev. K. Zakrajsek, a missionary as Master of Ceremonies. St. Mary’s School choir sand the mass. She was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Andrew Lindner, Sylvester Hinker, Casper Lindner, Charles Ludwig, Jos. Kohlnhofer and Ed Klinke.
Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Quast and
daughter Dolores of Granton; Linus Prock and daughter, Mrs. John McKenzie of
Globe; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kinnear, Mr. and Mrs. August de Kennen, Mr. and Mrs.
John Paulley, Mr. and Mrs. John Quast, all of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Prock of Neillsville.
