Sloniker, Joseph Sherman #2 (11 JUN
1868 - 09 FEB 1942)
Joseph Sherman Sloniker, son of Jacob Sloniker and
Elizabeth Snyder, was born in the town of Woodland, Sauk County, Wisconsin on
June 11, 1868 and passed away at the Neillsville Hospital on Monday, February 9,
1942, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 29 days.
He was united in marriage to Myrtle May Apker in the year of 1890 and to this union was born six children, three sons and three daughters: Earl of Greenwood, Mrs. Elmer (Floy) Horn, Chili; Mrs. Arnold (Fern) Beyer, Alma Center; Mrs. Oscar (Zula) Miller of Greenwood; Wren, who passed away in December 1915 and Ross at home on the farm. His wife preceded him in death in April 1921.
He leaves his loss, besides his children, twelve grandchildren, seven brothers and three sisters, besides many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Sloniker was a man of sterling qualities and well liked by all who knew him. He has resided for the past 45 years on the same farm east of Greenwood.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Methodist Church, Rev. A.J. Abbott officiated. Mrs. Chal Perkins and Mrs. George Haeuser sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “lead Kindly Light,” Mrs. John Meng accompanied them on the piano.
The flower girls were Elaine Miller, Sylvia Horn and Corrine Sloniker, granddaughters of the deceased.
The pallbearers were Sylvester Plank, Albert Mathison, Frank Kline, Richard Shields, Frank Drake and John Arends.
Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. Harve Sloniker, Mr. Oliver Sloniker, Mrs. B.E. Baley, Mrs. Ida Apker, Mr. and Mrs. John Sloniker, all of Wonewoc, Wis.; Dr. Edward Sloniker, Pecatonica, Ill.; Milo Sloniker, Camp Grant, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. West Apker, New Lisbon, Wis.; Mrs. Aug. Langsinger, Mrs. Walter Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Sloniker, Valton, Wis.; Mrs. Bird Apker, Omro, Wis.; Justin Sloniker, Appleton, Wis.; Mrs. Geo. Iffland, Merrillan, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Van Horn, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Van Horn, Mrs. Wilson Van Horn, Alma Center, Wis.
