Korntved, Myrtle #2 (03 NOV 1926 -
17 OCT 1943)
Myrtle Korntved, 16, was instantly killed when she fell through the open door of
a milk truck cab as the truck struck a rough spot in a town road 5 ½ miles
southwest of here at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
The manner of her death was
established by a coroner’s jury at an inquest held in the City Hall Monday
morning.
The girl was riding from Greenwood, where she was employed, to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Soren Korntved, 1 ½ miles from the scene of the accident.
Driver of the truck was Clarence Warncke, whose sister, Arlene, occupied the center seat. Miss Korntved was seated next to the right hand door when it was jarred open.
She landed on her knees and was struck by the truck body and thrown under the
right rear wheel which passed over her head. Death was instantaneous.
The
truck, owned by Floyd Clintsman, is operated on a milk route here.
Witnesses at the inquest were Clarence and Arlene Warncke; Robert Clintsman, 12, son of the truck owner, who was riding in the rear of the truck at the time of the accident; Fred Barr, first person to reach the scene and Tony Schiller, Greenwood mortician.
Corner H.L. Brown, who conducted the original investigation, presided at the
inquest. Jurors were R.L. Barnes, H.M. Bergeman, Charles Ludwig, I.W. Stafford,
George Speich and Fred Drew.
Myrtle Korntved was born in the Town of Eaton on
Nov. 3, 1926. She had graduated from grade school and was employed at the James
McConnell home in Greenwood.
She is survived by her parents and four sisters and brothers: Mrs. Howard Parrien, Chicago; Peter, with the Army in Australia; Andrew with the Navy in California and Irene, employed at the Harold Prock home, Pine Valley. Three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at Grace Methodist Church at 1:30 P.M. Thursday with the Rev. Alex J. Abbott officiating. Burial will take place in the Brighton Cemetery near Unity
