Behrens, Carrol Eugene #2 (23 SEP
1895 - 30 AUG 1943)
Carrol Eugene Behrens, son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Otto Behrens, was born in Greenwood, Wis., September 23, 1895. He grew to
manhood here. He enlisted in World War I on December 15, 1917 and was inducted
into service at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He was in Co. A, 127th Infantry and went
overseas March 29, 1918. He participated in the battles at Alsace, Aisne-Marie,
and was gassed near Sergy, France on August 2, 1918. He was hospitalized for 8
months in France and received an honorable discharge from the army on May 17,
1919.
On June 22, 1922 he was united in marriage to Esther Podall of Coloma, Wis. To
this union three sons were born, Robert, Eugene and Charles. Robert is a Marine
now serving overseas.
On August 30, 1943 he passed away in Portland, Oregon
from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He is survived by his three sons of Madison and two brothers Fred and Clyde of Greenwood and a host of other relatives and friends.
The body arrived in Greenwood on Wed., September 8th. Military services, a short prayer at the Schiller Funeral Parlors at 1:30 and funeral at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. was held on Thursday afternoon. Rev. A.J. Abbott officiated. He was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Louis Brown, Adelbert Wells, John Meng, Harry Stafford, Robert Zetche, and Wm. Dallman.
Mrs. Louis Brown and Mrs. Adelbert Wells had charge of the flowers.
Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Otto Anderson, Stevens
Point; Mrs. Art Long, Stanley; Mrs. Harry Schmelzer, Mrs. Esther burns and sons
Charles and Eugene of Madison.
