Frances Potter, daughter of William and Ellen Potter, was born February 7, 1890, at Cambridge, Wisconsin. When eight years of age she came to Greenwood, with her parents. She attended school at Eaton Center and graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1908.

She taught in Clark County Schools for three years, then went to Oregon. After teaching three years in the rural school of that state she was appointed to the City Grades at Roseberg, Oregon. During the summer vacation and through correspondence, she completed her teacher training at Monmouth Oregon, and graduated from the University of Oregon with her Master Degree. In June, 1923 she was appointed Platoon Librarian in the Kellogg School in the City of Portland, later holding the same position at the Portsmouth School. She was teaching there up to the time of her death, November 30, 1943. Death was due to a blood clot following an operation, Saturday morning November 27.

Frances was preceded in death by her father and mother and older brother, William, who died June 21, 1941 in Portland, Oregon. Another brother Joseph died in infancy.

Rosary services were held in Portland, Wednesday afternoon, and the remain was accompanied to Stanley by Miss Margaret Potter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Potter of Chippewa Falls, who has made her home with Frances for three years.

Requiem High Mass was ready by Father Novak, in St. Mary’s Church, greenwood on Monday morning December 6, 1943. Pallbearers were old neighbors and friends of the Potter family: William McKenna, Linus Prock, Arthur Syth, Leo Stanley, Earl Tompkins, and Hugh Christie. Internment was made in the Family Lot, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Greenwood.

Leaving to mourn the loss of a dear sister are Mary (Mrs. Frank Plecity), Arthur Potter of Chippewa Falls, Raymond Potter, Rosamond, California and Homer Potter, Marshfield. There are four nieces and nine nephews. Four are in the service: Bernard Potter, Chippewa Falls, somewhere in the Pacific area; Edward Potter, Marshfield, somewhere in the Mediterranean area; Raymond Potter, Marshfield, Laredo, Texas; and Robert Potter, Marshfield, Manhattan Beach, New York.
