Hartson, Hilda #2 (18 APR
1867 - 01 FEB 1945)
Hilda Wellen, daughter of John and Lesa Wellen, was
born in Christiana, Norway on April 18, 1867 and came to Whitehall, Wisconsin at
the age of five.
On May 15, 18887 she was united in marriage to Henry Hartson at Whitehall and they came to Clark County, where he had lived since 1872 and where he operated the stage lines between Neillsville and Withee, living near Greenwood.
They later came to the city where they resided until Mr. Hartson’s death on
January 4, 1944. She than went to New Virginia, Iowa where she made her home
with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Jardine (Velma.)
Mrs.
Hartson was a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1904 and was its worthy
matron for five years. She also took part in Presbyterian and Grace Methodist
Church activities during the 57 years she lived in Greenwood.
She passed away
at New Virginia, Iowa on Friday, February 1, 1946. She suffered a stroke on New
Years Day.
The body was brought to Greenwood Tuesday morning and funeral services were held
at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Rev. A.J. Abbott officiated. She was laid to
rest in the Greenwood Cemetery beside her husband.
