Memhard, Addie #2 (01 SEP 1878 - 27 SEP1959)

Mrs. Addie J. Memhard was born September 1, 1878 at Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Byron F. and Ella Roach Ketchpaw. She was the eldest of five children. She received her education in the Elkhorn schools.

Her family moved to Greenwood in December, 1897, but Addie remained with relatives, coming some months later to join her family. She was employed as the first cashier of the Big Store, now known at the Farmer Store of Greenwood. She worked at the Big Store for several years and after resigning from the employment of that firm, went to Chicago, where she was employed by a Wholesale Credit Company and traveled around various places where sales were conducted by the company.

She was united in marriage with John Memhard of Chicago on January 26, 1911. Soon after their marriage, the couple went to Twin Falls, Idaho, where they purchased a store business which they operated for several years. After selling their holdings at that place they returned to Chicago to engage in the same sort of business. They sold their interest in this and after some time returned to Idaho, and were engaged in the dry goods business at Bancroft, Idaho up to the time of Mr. Memhard’s death in March of 1938.

In July of 1939, Mrs. Memhard came to Greenwood to make her home with her parents and sister Beatrice Clayton. She has resided in Greenwood ever since. Addie was a sweet, friendly person and was loved by many. She was a member of the Soda Springs Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Soda Springs, Idaho.

She has been in ill health for some time and death came as a welcome release to her. She passed away at the Edwin Finkle home on Sunday, September 27, 1959.

Funeral services were conducted at the Hill Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30th, Rev. Mrs. Ethel Nulton, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
During the service Mrs. Fred Hohl and Miss Joanne Peterson sang, “Ivory Palaces” and “Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied by Mrs. Wm. Olson at the organ.

The pallbearers were Wm. Steiger, John Meng, Edgar Opdycke, Edwin Finkle, Don Warner and Robert Ramin.

Mrs. Memhard is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Maud Dustin, Everett Washington; Mrs. Beatrice Clayton, Greenwood; two brothers, Dr. Marcel Ketchpaw, Bloomer; Eben L. Ketchpaw, St. Louis, Mo.; five nieces and nephews.
Those from away who attended the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. M.B. Ketchpaw, Bloomer; Mrs. Arthur Darton, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Darton and daughter, Mrs. Merlyn Bender, Mrs. Adolph Voight, all of Loyal.
