Varney, Edith E #2 (27 JAN 1872 - 05 APR
1950)*
Edith E. Varney, eldest daughter of Hiram W. and Cynthia E. Varney
was born in La Crosse, January 27, 1872. As a baby she was brought to the new
farm home five miles northwest of Greenwood, where she grew to womanhood.
When still young she had an attack of rheumatism which left her hands crippled. Nevertheless she received an education in music and taught organ and piano lessons, driving to Withee and along other roads to reach her pupils. She was active in the Church at Hemlock and later at Greenwood, after they left the farm and moved here.
In 1914, Miss Varney, her mother and sister, Maude, went to Wyoming and took up
homesteads. She spent the rest of her life in or near Cheyenne and Denver.
