A daughter, Darlene Evelyn, was born to Phil and Christina Writz of Phillips, at 12:35 a.m., January 4, 2014, Medford Memorial Health Center, making her the first baby of the year.

Darlene weighed 8 pounds and measured 21 inches at birth. She joins a big brother Levi.

For being Memorial Health Center’s first baby of 2014, Evelyn and her family received a laundry basket filled with gifts generously donated by area businesses and individuals.

“We were surprised the New Year’s baby was born on the fourth, but we were excited,” the family says. “Thank you to local businesses for the generous donations! What a great surprise!”
