North, Herman (Emeritus Pres & Director - 1971)
Herman North, 91, who has been an active officer and employee of The Neillsville
Bank for 73 years, Monday was named emeritus president and director of the local
financial institution which has total assets of over $14 million. The action
followed the annual stockholders’ meeting, which saw two changes take place on
the board of directors, and a re-shuffling of officers.
Mr. North’s son-in-law, Delbert C. Struble, was elected president and chairman
of the board. Walter E. Ollech, who has served as cashier for the last four
years, was named vice president and cashier; Dale Armitage was elevated from
assistant vice president to vice president; and Mrs. Betty Noah and Miss Eileen
Zank were reelected assistant cashiers.
New members of the board, in addition to Struble, are Dr. E. H. Brekke, local
veterinarian, and Elton F. Imig, Town of Weston farmer whose father, the late
Arthur Imig, served as director of the bank for many years. Other directors, all
reelected, are: G. O. North; John D. Wuethrich, Greenwood dairy plant operator;
and Wm. A. Campman, who has had long service on the board of directors. Ollech
also remains a member of the board.
Mr. North’s association with the Neillsville Bank began August 6, 1898. He was
18 years of age and the bank was but one year older. At that time, Charles F.
Grow, who had succeeded Judge Richard Dewhurst, was president. He continued in
that capacity until 1909. Judge Dewhurst’s son-in-law, W. L. Hemphill, then was
elected president, and a member of the Dewhurst-Hemphill family retained the
presidency until Mr. North’s elevation to that position in 1947.
