Bearheart, Joe (1834? – 25 JUL 1916)

Joe Bearheart, more familiarly and generally known as Big Nosed Joe, died Tuesday morning of last week at the Indian settlement at Dells Dam. Joe had been ailing for several months. He was the patriarch of the settlement and was a well-known figure in this vicinity for many years, his age being an indeterminate quality, having been estimated at close to 100 years, but his relatives state that Joe was 82 years of age. He was a nice old fellow and during 38 years of residence here came to have many very good friends here. He leaves one son, Dan Bearheart, and one grandson, Harry Swallow. His wife died in 1914. The funeral was held Thursday at sunset and interment was made on his land at Dells Dam.
