East Lynn (3 Aug 1916)

Aug. Kampin, a prosperous farmer, living one mile west of Chili, and the owner of a Ford car, had an experience some two weeks ago that seems more like a dream than an actual reality. The story goes that Mr. Kampin was taking a short pleasure trip and became so engrossed in the surrounding scenery and did not become aware of the fact that something unusual had happened until he became suddenly enveloped in darkness, but being familiar with the eclipses and the Zodiac signs, he only gave the incident a passing thought and continued on his journey, but as the darkness grew more dense, he was compelled to light his car lamps and make an investigation. He found himself in an underground passage and with difficulty turned his car around and running on low speed and many hardships, he once more came to the light of day. August says the only account he can give of the whole proceedings is, that wonderful little creation of mankind dodged into a gopher hole unbeknown to him and was travelling at a rapid speed into the bowels of the earth.

A number from here attended the Mission Fest at Viefkind Sunday.

Will Guk and son, Arnold, have been making hay for Wm. Schlinsog last week.

Chas. Guk is the champion blueberry picker of Wisconsin. He picked 149 quarts in one hour and 64 minutes.

There was a birthday party at Herman Jensen’s Sunday evening.
