Dean R. Wiese, age 66, of Abbotsford, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023. A
private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a
later date. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with
the arrangements.
Dean was born on January 12, 1957, the son of Francis and Mary (Kittl) Wiese in
Marshfield. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1975. Dean was united in
marriage to Brenda Gosse on October 22, 1977.
Dean is survived by his wife of 46 years, Brenda of Abbotsford; three sons:
Dallas (Lynsie) of Dorchester, Sean (Wendy) of Abbotsford and David (Ashley) of
Thorp; one granddaughter, Kylee; two sisters: Audrey (Ted) Calmes of Plover and
Juanita Krug of Owen; one brother, Mike (Shirley) of Colby; nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman and sister,
Loretta.

Martin Haavisto, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2023. He was
born on October 29, 1931, to Lydia (Jurmu) and Valentine Haavisto at home in
Wakefield, Mich.
Martin was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and “old” grandpa for his family. He
was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, and daughter, Ruth Cole.
He is survived by daughter, Caryn (Alan) Ruetten, their children: Melissa
Ruetten (Thomas Tran), Phoenix, Ariz., Krysta Ruetten, Phoenix, Ariz., Kelley
Ruetten (Tobie Speleman) Antwerp, Belgium, and Andrew Ruetten, Houston, Texas;
Ken Cole, Marathon City and his children: Greg (Lindsay) Cole, Mosinee, Sheree
(Tim) Knauf, Hanover Park, Ill., and Melanie (Zack) Switlick, Wausau.
Martin also enjoyed watching his greatgrandchildren Gavin, Landon and Lydia
Cole, Noah, Theo and Max Tran and Dayne, Aiden and Mack Switlick grow up.
Martin and Joyce chose to work and raise their family in Colby. Both worked at
the high school. Martin was a man of true integrity who touched many lives. His
impact will be felt by his family, friends and those who loved him for a long
time. We were lucky to know someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.
A private celebration of life is planned for a later date. As a lifelong learner
and teacher, any memorials can be sent to the Colby Community Library, Colby,
WI.

at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, La Crosse. The Rev. Burke performed the
ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Emory Dickson, Dresbach, Minnesota, and
Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Ganz, Route 2, Colby.
Attending the couple were Bill Underhill and Jackie Underhill. Ushers were Greg
Ganz and Roger Olson.
The couple will live in Colby. The bridegroom is employed by Koch Fuels.

Mr. and Mrs. George Riehle, 116 North Fifth Street, Abbotsford, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Dawn Marie, to Randall Dean Swacker, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Virgil Swacker, 314 Butternut, Abbotsford. Miss Riehle is employed by
the Abby Café. Her fiancé, a 1968 graduate of Abbotsford High School, is a
co-owner of Swacker Milk Service.

Holtz, Herman (8 Feb 1886 – 5 Sep 1977)
Services for Herman Holtz, 91, were held September 8, 1977 at 1:30 at Christ
Lutheran Church, Abbotsford. The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiated, and burial
followed at the Abbotsford Cemetery.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Eugene Blair, Milton Lenz, Clarence Nelson,
Leonard Jantsch, Loren Kramer and Vern Wittlinger, Jr.
He died at his home at 11:15 p.m. on September 5, 1977. He had been ill for some
time.
Mr. Holtz was born February 8, 1886 in Rio Creek. He married the former Ida
Ruesch on December 15, 1908 in Medford. She died in December 1953.
He worked as a blacksmith in the Medford and Athens area before moving to
Dorchester in 1921. There he operated a grocery store known as Holtz Brothers
Store. He began farming in Dorchester in 1931, and later managed the Dorchester
Coop feed store from 1941 – 1947.
He then moved to Abbotsford and built and operated the Holtz Feed Store. He
retired in 1974. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Erma) Virks, Abbotsford, and two
son, Ray, Abbotsford, and Harold, Scottsdale, Arizona. He is also survived by
seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.

The Rev. Bill Koehler, Madison, and the Rev. Bruce Beiver, Milwaukee, performed
the marriage rites of Julie A. Ridderbusch, Salem, Oregon, and Scott R. Girard,
Madison, at the Lake Edge United Church of Christ, Madison, Saturday, August 27,
1977.
Parents of the couple are Dale Ridderbusch, Abbotsford, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Girard, Madison.
The bride wore a candlelight quiana knit floo length gown. It featured long
sleeves accented with heavy lace and pearl trim. She carried a bouquet of orchid
with trailing stephanotis, ivy and spider plants.
Carol Colby, Abbotsford, a friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Judy Berman, Appleton, a friend, and Sue Sorg, Kalispell, Montana, sister
of the bride. They wore peach, green and yellow knit gowns, respectively. Each
carried a bouquet of carnations surround an orchid and trailing ivy.
Dave Wagner, Madison, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. Stu Giffon, New
London, friend, and Bill Fuller, Madison, another friend, were groomsmen. Gary
Ridderbusch and Greg Toussaint were ushers.
A dinner and reception followed at the 7E’s De Forest.
The bride is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Hospital School of
Radiation Therapy, while the bridegroom is an accountant graduate from the
University of Wisconsin, Madison. The new Mrs. Girard is a radiation therapy
technologist in Salem, where the couple will live.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, was the scene Saturday, August 27, 1977 of
the wedding between Bobbie Ann Dorothy Schuh and William Dean Ewert. The Rev.
Francis Rushman performed the 5 p.m. ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Schuh, Route 2, Colby, and Mr.
and Mrs. Myron Ewert, Route 2, Colby.
An empire waist gown of white chiffon over taffeta was chosen by the bride. The
scoop neckline and angel sleeves were accented with daisy trim. The gown’s
ruffled hem extended into a full chapel length train. Her matching headpiece
held a daisy trimmed elbow length veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of yellow
roses, yellow carnations, daisies and stephanotis.
Nancy Bloom, West Bend, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Shelba Bauer,
Wausau, friend of the bride, Marie Ewert, Colby, sister of the bridegroom, Robin
Schilling, friend of the bride, and Laurie Schuh, Colby, sister of the bride,
were attendants.
Best man was Duane Schuh, Antigo, brother of the bridegroom, Robert Michlig,
Colby, cousin of the bridegroom, Mike Kassie, Colby, friend of the bridegroom,
and Dennis Ewert, Germantown, cousin of the bridegroom, were groomsmen. Ushers
were Ronald and Donald Schuh, and Terry Ewert. Mary Ann Will was the organist,
and Mrs. Betty Kadonsky, Abbotsford, was soloist.
A reception and buffet supper were held at the VFW in Colby. A dance followed at
the Sword.
The couple both graduated from Colby High School. He is engaged in farming and
she is a clerk at Hedlers.

Evonne Faye Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anselm J. Schmid, Dorchester,
became the bride of Ross K. Rannow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard K. Rannow, Colby,
Saturday, September 3, 1977, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester. The Rev.
James Schaefer performed the 1 p.m. ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents, chose a floor length A-line white
poly-organza gown with an attached chapel length train trimmed with embroidered
motifs and imported Venice lace. The bodice was styled with a high cameo
neckline and trimmed with sead pearls and tinted sequins. The tapered sleeves
featured slightly ruffled cuffs. Her fingertip veil edged with matching imported
Venice lace was attached to a lace covered Juliet Cap. She carried a cascade of
tinted orchids and peach colored roses bordered with delicate orange mums and
baby’s breath.
Maid f honor was Marjean Schmid, Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Bridesmaids were
Renee Rannow, Colby, Mrs. Marilyn Schjoneman, Medford, and Rochelle Rannow,
Colby.
They were attired in apricot colored floor length gowns accented with a flounced
hemline with a ruffled back bustle caught with a matching rose. Wreath type
headpieces of tiny mums were worn in their hair. They carried a miniature
cascade of apricot mums and carnations with baby’s breath.
Dean Jannene, Fond du Lac, was best man. Groomsmen were Randy Rannow, Colby,
Jerrold Schmid, Colby, and Mark Rannow, Colby. Donald Schmid, Colby, and Lloyd
Vienneau, Milwaukee, were ushers.
A reception, dinner and dance followed at Memorial Hall in Dorchester.
The new Mrs. Rannow is a 1977 graduate of Colby High School and is employed by
Schjoneman Leasing, Inc., Medford, as a secretary. Her husband is a 1975
graduate of Colby High School and is employed at Rannow Cabinet Shop in Colby,
where they are making their home.
