Smrecek, Marian L. (17 June 1932 - 28 February 2014)
Marian L. Smrecek, 81, of Loyal died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Ministry St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Marian Louise Podrovitz was born June 17, 1932, in rural Clark County to George
and Matilda (Cerne) Podrovitz. She was raised in the Chicago area and spent her
summers in Willard. At the age of 10, her family purchased a farm and moved to
Willard, where she continued her education in the Willard/Greenwood area. Marian
was united in marriage to Daniel R. Smrecek Nov. 26, 1949, at Holy Family
Catholic Church in Willard. In addition to being a farm wife, Marian also worked
as a bookkeeper for the Greenwood Co-op for a few years. She then worked as a
postal clerk at various post offices until her retirement. Marian resided in
Loyal until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen in 2007. In
2008, she moved to Miller Alternative Care in Marshfield and then moved to A
Touch of Home in Marshfield in 2010 where she resided until her death.
In her spare time, Marian loved to cook, garden, play the accordion, dance and
listen to gospel music. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and
its PCCW, and a member of the K.S.K.J. Lodge for many years.
She is survived by seven children, David of Brookfield, Diane (Ray) Tenut of Big
Lake, MN, Danny “Smack” of Loyal, Dale (Penny) of Greenwood, Jennifer “Dawn”
(Kevin Wallick) Ryan of Landenberg, PA, Dean of Marshfield, Dana (Randy) Smrecek-Bennett
of Cadott; nine grandchildren, Erich Smrecek, Nicholas Smrecek, Douglas Tenut,
Marcus Smrecek, Cory Smrecek, Kyle Smrecek, Luke Smrecek, Sierra Ryan Wallick
and Zac Smrecek; two great-grandchildren, Amarah and Amaya Smrecek; one brother,
Michael (Kandi) Podrovitz of Willard; several nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel, Jan. 6, 2006;
and one daughter-in-law, Barbara Smrecek.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday March 8, 2014, at St. Anthony
Catholic Church in Loyal. The Rev. Steve Brice will officiate, and burial will
follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Willard. Marian’s grandchildren will
serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the church, Saturday from 9:30
a. m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church
in Loyal or the Clark County Humane Society in Neillsville in Marian’s name.
