Boelk, Gladys E. (Krahmer) Bicker (12 SEP 1924 - 22 JAN 2014)
Gladys E. Boelk, 89, Medford, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Our House Assisted
Living in Medford, where she had resided the past three weeks while under
hospice care.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Medford, with Rev. James Krueger officiating. Interment was at Medford
Evergreen Cemetery II in Medford. Pallbearers were Delmar, Klaus and Christopher
Boelk, and Jesse Brunner.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with
arrangements.
The former Gladys Krahmer was born on September 12, 1924 in Loran, Ill., to the
late Harvey C. and Edith C. (Goethe) Krahmer. She attended Pearl City, Ill.,
grade schools, was a graduate of Pearl City High School, and attended Beauty
Culture School in Rockford, Ill.
In 1942 in Loran, Ill., she married LaVerle Bicker, who was killed during World
War II. On December 16, 1951 in Lena, Ill., she married Leo A. Boelk, who
preceded her in death on July 22, 2009.
She worked as a telephone operator in Illinois and owned and operated Kramer
Motel in Medford for four years. They owned and operated a trucking firm and she
drove school bus in Illinois for five years. They also owned and operated a
small dairy farm in the Thorp area for seven years.
She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ladies of Immanuel,
VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star Medford Chapter No. 254. She
enjoyed needlework, embroidery and milking cows.
She is survived by three children, Delmar (Bettina) Boelk and Tina Wells, both
of Medford, and Tamara (David) Gentry of Stillwater, Minn.; a sister-in-law,
Shirley Krahmer of Freeport, Ill.; three grandchildren, Klaus (Angela) Boelk,
Christopher (Nichole) Boelk and Brittany Wells; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son in
infancy; four brothers, Emmerson, Kenneth, Leonard and LaVerne Krahmer; and a
son-in-law, Ethan J. Wells in 2003.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in her name to
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School or Our House Assisted Living.
