Syring Richard ''Dick'' (19 JUL 1924 - 28 JUL 2002)


Richard ''Dick'' Syring 78, Knowlton, a former Wausau resident, died Sunday July 28, 2002 at his home, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born July 19, 1924 in the town of Wien, son of the late Richard and Bertha (Borchardt) Syring. On August 17, 1946 he married Genevieve Wimmer at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She survives.

Dick had been employed at the former Wausau Iron Works for 35 years and for the past 20 years he had been employed at L & S Electric, Schofield. A Navy veteran of World War II, Richard was a member of the American Legion Sawyer-Drumm Post #393, Edgar and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus George Schreier Council #1069, Wausau. Among Dick's many pasttimes, his favorites were, reading Western novels, whittling and spending time at Kid's Kamp.

Survivors besides his wife, Genevieve ''Gen'' Syring, include six children, Patricia (Arnold) Beilke, Maryville, TN, Allen ''Butch'' (Paulette) Syring, Wausau, Steven (Sandy) Syring, Aurora, CO, Roger Syring, Joliet, IL, Jeffrey Syring, Rothschild and Jean (Brian) Matsche, Wausau, three brothers, Willis (Rose) Syring, Fairfield, OH, Leroy (Pat) Syring, Green Bay, and Donald (Janet) Syring, Waldorf, MD, seven sisters, Margaret (Calvin) Ledbetter, Brooksville, MS, Hazel Wagner, Wausau, Lucille Felzkowski, Rothschild, Ruth (Willie) Hall, Edgar, Wilma Hamann, Eagle River, AK, Nancy Thompson, Galveston, ID, and Mary (Allen) Ohrmundt, Lutz, FL, 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Megan Syring.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 31, 2002 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.

Friends may call on Tues. from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

There will be a parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of St. Anne, Wausau or to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knowlton.
