LEO WEHRMAN GETS SERVICE DISCHARGE
Greenwood Veteran Returns in November After 2 Years Overseas
Greenwood – Tech. Sgt. Leo Wehrman received his honorable discharge at Camp
Grant, Ill., Nov. 9 and has arrived in greenwood for a visit with his father,
Otto Wehrman and other relatives and friends.
The ex-sergeant entered the Army Sept. 25, 1942, at Fort Sheridan, Ill., and
received his basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., Camp West. Colo., Camp Butner,
N.C., and Camp Kilmer, N.J. From there he went to Staten Island, N.Y., leaving
for overseas duty March 4, 1943, and landing at Oran, Africa, March 1943.
Later he went to Italy, where he participated in battles for Rome, Arno,
Northern Apennines, and the Po Valley. He left Naples for the States Oct. 20,
1945, and landed at Hampton Roads, Va. Nov. 3.
He was awarded five overseas service bars, the European-African-Middle Eastern
Theater ribbon with three bronze battle stars, the Purple Heart, the Victory
Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.
